Heavenly Media becomes Wild Invention!

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Heavenly Media is changeing it’s name to Wild Invention! There are a number of reasons for this. I’ve been thinking about the name for a while and it seemed like a good time to move on. The impetus came when I got a letter from lawyers acting on behalf of Heavenly Marketing (far from heavenly behaviour) demanding money with menaces, but that’s all in the past now and I’m sure they’re very nice people.

Wild Invention build Wildliy Creative little bits of stuff such as: Games, Microsites, Innovative Social Media apps, Flash, Actionscript and various other lovely and fun things.

Integrity, technology and only having things on my desk that make me happy

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Integrity is, or should be a crucial part of what we do here at Heavenly Media. To me it’s about keeping promises, getting things done on time and doing what we say we will. When we have integrity we all feel better about what we’re doing. In order to have integrity we need to be organised. We need to know what’s expected of us and when we’ll be able to do it by. We also need to be motivated to actually push through the barriers and get it done.

I’m working on a system of short, medium and long term goal setting. Currently I’m thinking spreadsheets, on for each project and one overriding one for deadlines. The other alternative would be to use an intranet. As we get bigger this would be useful. I don’t want it to become a barrier to productivity though as the Runtime intranet was. There should be no hours logging and no tickets with long documentation trails, just task with subtasks and sub-subtasks. Then we will have a clear idea of what needs to be done and how much work is left to do on each project and will be able to give realistic deadlines.

The other part is about motivation. I think this about a combination of things. Partly it’s about showing willing. Coming to work on time, every day. It’s also about things like keeping my desk clean. I’m working on only having things on my desk that make me happy. It’s also about keeping a clean mind, doing the things that need to get done first and quickly. Eating my Frogs as Graeme would say.

So the plan is to move back into a position of integrity, to take the steps, eat the frogs and always get in on time.

Creating a new Vision

Friday, January 18th, 2008

As Heavenly Media’s first birthday draws near we have enjoyed the chance to look back over our first year, back to when we first started last March as an ‘ethical internet marketing’, a business premise which promoted a somewhat underwhelming response, through to being a busy ruby on rails web application development agency.

A lot has changed and as such we decided it was high time that we reviewed our goals and focus on what we have done best over the past year, working as a web development outsourcing partner to larger web agencies.

Having a good look at our past and where we are now has been a great exercise for us in many ways. We have rediscovered all the reasons that we work hard day and night to make Heavenly successful. Rather than our original vision, which has lost its relevance slowly over the past year as we have learned more about the business we want to build, we are now armed with an inspirational and relevant vision

With the help of Gordon Borer, an exceptional business coach, we explored our vision, that is what we want the business will look like when it’s finished, which allowed us to really focus in on how we want achieve our business goals. We agreed that our vision for Heavenly media is:

To be and to be known as the greatest web development outsourcing agency in the world.

We want the be known as the highest quality, most reliable, flexible and cost effective outsourcing service in the world, a claim we have proudly made possible by using the wonderful Ruby on Rails framework together with Agile and Scrum Methodology. An exciting prospect and a worthy goal… it’s the great reason to get up in the morning!
